User Guide for the 'Move Recorders, Keep Footage,' Migration Workflow

Overview

The following sections offer a step-by-step guide to migrating a recorder from a source VMS to a destination VMS. Rerun XPort and repeat the steps to migrate additional recorders, one at a time.

Pre-requisites

• Network access to both the source and destination deployments.

• A valid XPort tool installer, shared by Vega via a Box link after purchase.

• Milestone admin credentials for both the source and destination systems.

• This migration workflow requires an empty temporary recorder (without cameras) to be connected to the destination site before migration. After the migration is finished, this temporary recorder can be disconnected and used for other purposes. Since this recorder is only a placeholder for configuration, it has no specific storage requirements. No media is recorded on it.

  • Warning: All existing devices are removed from the temporary recorder by XPort before the migration starts. It is important not to use a recorder that is currently in use.
