FAQ
Find answers to commonly asked questions for this workflow
Can the new site have a newer XProtect version?
Yes. The primary purpose of this workflow is to facilitate the easy and simultaneous upgrade of software and infrastructure.
What product flavors and source versions are supported?
All C-code flavors (Corporate, Expert, Professional+) for all versions are supported.
What product flavors and target versions are supported?
All C-code product versions and flavors (Corporate, Expert, Professional+) are supported. It is assumed that the target is at least the same version or more recent than the source version.
Is footage lost during migration? What is the duration? How do I fix it?
In this workflow, if media database migration is selected, the database is reconfigured and rebuilt after the media copy is completed. Although the destination recorder continues to record during the copy, XPort software turns off the service to facilitate the reconfiguration and rebuild. Footage is lost during this process, and the duration of the loss depends on the size of the database. We've seen 41TB take two hours.
The only solution at this time is to record on edge and enable the restore from edge feature in XProtect.
Are devices deleted on the old site after copy to the new site?
Devices are copied and not removed. Users need to delete devices manually.
What types of users are migrated?
XPort migrates XProtect Basic and Active Directory users. Machine users are not migrated because XPort can't read credentials.
Is migration reversible?
Yes. To reverse migration, restore the backup configuration at the target site. This migration workflow does not alter any settings on the source site.
Do you support the migration of third-party integrations, such as Analytics, PSIM, and access control?
As of June 2025, we do not support this yet.
